Business Analyst, Administration

The Business Analyst reports to the Vice President, Administration.  The position is responsible for supporting the various administration functions through the identification and implementation of technical solutions.  The incumbent will use their strong analytical and coding skills to provide technical support for RMA’s in house administration system. By liaising with Administration management, teammates and other stakeholders, the incumbent will perform process analysis, articulate solution requirements, and ensure final solutions are implemented successfully. 

Primary Accountabilities

  • Provide technical support to the Administration team by identifying and implementing automated process improvements.
  • Build and maintain various queries and tables through SQL, VBA and/or Python.
  • Gain a solid understanding of the Administration system architecture; how business is maintained in back-end tables, and understanding and maintaining stored procedure code, etc.
  • Drive process-oriented discussions, to investigate business and/or systems issues and inefficiencies.
  • Communicate analysis and results to various stakeholders and management.
  • Develop business requirements and traceability documents using Microsoft Office or other industry standard tools.
  • Develop an understanding of business processes as they relate to operations.
  • Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement.

Position Requirements

Experience, Education and Designations 

  • Post-secondary undergraduate degree, preferably in a business, mathematics, statistics, or computer science program.
  • Advanced level of knowledge in Excel and/or Access.
  • Strong demonstrated experience with SQL, VBA, R/Python.
  • 2 years’ experience in a business process analysis role.

Knowledge, Skills and Attributes

  • Able to juggle multiple tasks with multiple stakeholders and across several projects.

E&O Underwriter, Commercial Insurance


Position Overview

Reporting to the Vice President, Commercial Insurance, the primary purpose of this role is to underwrite new and renewal business in a profitable manner in accordance with authority level and established guidelines.  This position will handle client servicing and provide quality service to broker clients.

General Responsibilities

As RMA is a small dynamic company, you will be expected to be flexible in your role; however, the primary responsibilities are as follows:

Key Responsibilities

  • Regularly communicate with underwriting management on individual accounts and make recommendations concerning operations, systems and procedures when appropriate.
  • Underwrite and select new business that will produce an underwriting profit.
  • Review submissions and identify exposure and risk from information provided.
  • Utilize underwriting tools to determine accurate classifications, rates and premium charges.
  • Underwrite renewal business and handle related servicing.
  • Implement corrective measures on renewal accounts as needed.
  • Participate in audits and/or underwriting meetings as required.

Education, Skills and Experience Required

  • Minimum 3-5 years of E&O underwriting experience; technology underwriting exposure is an asset
  • Completion of a post-secondary undergraduate degree program
  • Working towards FCIP or other insurance designation
  • Excellent oral and written communication and organizational skills
  • High proficiency in MS Office tools (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams)
  • Ability to follow process and attention to details
  • Ability to work independently but also be a team player
  • Knowledgeable in insurance coverage forms and policy language
  • Experience in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with clients

Treaty Analyst, Life Reinsurance

Principal Accountabilities

The Treaty Analyst position reports to the Associate Director, Treaties, Life Reinsurance, with a primary focus on the review, analysis and administration of reinsurance contracts.

General Responsibilities

As RMA is a small dynamic company, you will be expected to be flexible in this role; however, the primary responsibilities are as follows:

  • Review of draft treaties or other types of contracts and amendments for individual, group and other lines of reinsurance business, as needed, to ensure all terms are as negotiated and agreed upon by all parties involved.
  • Document treaty and amendment review, discussion points and decisions.
  • Communicate with insurance companies and reinsurance partners on treaty reviews and other treaty related matters.
  • Organize and participate in meetings with internal and external pricing actuaries and/or lawyers.
  • Provide treaty information or clarification of terms to internal and external clients.
  • Populate and maintain various treaty systems and ensure information is accurate and up to date.
  • Ensure the completeness and accuracy of electronic treaty data as well as physical treaty records.
  • Prepare treaty reports requested by client companies and/or RMA’s management team and perform other treaty related work, as assigned.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experience Requirements

  • Completion of a post-secondary undergraduate degree program.
  • A minimum 2 years’ experience in a treaty role in the life insurance/reinsurance industry would be an asset; however, recent university graduates will be considered.
  • Knowledge of insurance and reinsurance deal structures, principles, practices and trends pertaining to reinsurance contracts would be an asset.
  • Highly accurate and detail-oriented while having the ability to keep in sight the broader implications of the task at hand.
  • Ability to multi-task with multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong and clear oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work with a high degree of autonomy.
  • Strong organization and interpersonal skills.
  • High proficiency in MS Office tools (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams)
  • Knowledge of Access would be an asset.
  • Willingness to take industry related courses, namely LOMA.
